Jack Kent Cooke Graduate Scholarship

2008 Graduate Scholarship Program

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation will award graduate scholarships to help students with exceptional promise and demonstrated financial need reach their full potential through education. Each award will fund tuition, fees, and living expenses for the length of the degree program, up to six years. There will be approximately 30 scholarships awarded nation-wide. Vassar College may nominate two seniors or recent graduates for this competition. Scholars may use the awards to attend any accredited graduate school in the US or abroad in pursuit of a graduate degree or professional degree, including medicine, law or business. US citizenship is not required. (from program guidelines)

If you are interested in applying for one of the Vassar nominations, we are asking you to do the following:

  1. Go to the website: http://www.jackkentcookefoundation.org and review the nomination guidelines, graduate scholarship materials, as well as the goals, history and mission of this foundation
  2. Pay attention to the eligibility criteria—and particular attention to the financial aid reporting and forms that will be required if you are selected as a nominee. Please note that a GPA of 3.5 is required and that you may not have begun graduate study.
  3. Write a short summary of your financial status paying particular attention to a description of unmet financial need: limited family and personal income and insufficient grants or scholarships to cover most or all educational expenses including tuition, room and board, history of loans. (one page maximum)
  4. Have two letters of recommendation submitted electronically and have your official transcripts (including JYA, transfer work, post-Vassar work) sent to the Office for Fellowships
  5. Register for and complete the application from the JKC website, answering all questions https://testregistration.org/rsp/CreateAccount.do?event=go&realm=28330765

Please submit all of these documents to the Office for Fellowships by February 11, 2008. By submitting an application for a JKC nomination, you are agreeing to the review of your Vassar transcript.

The members of the faculty Committee on Fellowships will select the two Vassar nominees. You may wish to review the financial forms in advance to be certain that you have the necessary information available to you should you be selected as a nominee.

Thank you for your interest.
