James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace
One of the world's leading think tanks specializing in international affairs, conducts programs of research, discussion, publication and education in international relations and U.S. Foreign policy. The James C. Gaither Junior Fellows Program at the Carnegie Endowment is designed to provide a substantive work experience for students who have a serious career interest in the area of international affairs. Approximately ten students will be hired to work at the Endowment on a full-time basis for a period of one year.
Vassar may nominate two seniors or recent graduates (1 year out) for this highly selective internship which includes a semi-monthly salary of $1,666.67 (equivalent to $40,000 annually) and benefits. The Office for Fellowships, Main N-162, will coordinate the application process for the College. Selection of the Vassar nominees (2) will be made by a Faculty Committee. Applicants should have very strong academic qualifications and have completed a significant amount of coursework in the area of international affairs, political science, economics, history, or Russian , Chinese or Middle East studies. Strong skills in analysis, logic, and written expression should be evident in the application.
Do not send application materials to the Carnegie Endowment, you must first be nominated by Vassar College to continue in the competition.

Contact your referees as soon as possible. Once they all agree to write on your behalf you will register them to submit their letter using the Recommendation Registration Form.
Upload your transcripts and a confidentiality waiver (if you do not have one on file) using the Recommendation Registration Form; please be prepared to do this when you go to complete the form.
Download the Carnegie Application Form; you will need this form when you go to complete the campus application form.
Complete the Campus Application and submit it by the campus deadline. Be prepared to upload all materials requested when you go to complete the form.
For Applicants: You must submit your application through the online system as indicated above. Please note that you cannot save information in the application and return to it at a later date. You should save your work in a separate document and enter it all at once when you are ready to submit.
For Letter Writers: Candidates should register their references through the online application. Once registered, writers will receive a link to this form Letter of Recommendation Form. If you haven't received an email please follow up with the applicant to ensure that you have been registered to write on his/her behalf. You may access this form at any time through this site, however you cannot save information and return to the form at a later date.
The Vassar nominees will be selected by a faculty committee before the end of the fall term. It is the applicant's responsibility to see that both letters of recommendation are received at the Office of Fellowships. Incomplete applications cannot be considered.
Final selection will be made by the Carnegie Endowment in April. Up to 10 will be selected from a national pool of applicants.
