Getting Started

Identifying and Working with a Mentor

"The Compton Mentor Fellowship Program welcomes innovative project proposals that encompass elements of the Foundation's traditional funding interests in environmental sustainability, climate change and energy policy, population and reproductive health, or conflict resolution. Proposed projects should demonstrate exceptional social merit and positive contribution in the fields of interest." (from the 2009 application materials)

Vassar may nominate two graduating seniors to the Compton Foundation. From an applicant pool of no more than 14, the Foundation will select up to 6 Fellows. The Vassar Committee on Fellowships will select the Vassar nominees. An interview will be required at the campus level for the short-list of applicants; an interview with the Foundation will be mandatory for nominees selected by the Compton foundation from the pool of 14.

Notification of Campus Selection: Early February. Deadline to submit Vassar nominee applications to Compton Foundation: February 11,2011. Mandatory interviews for selected nominees will be held in California March 18-20, 2011. Fellowship winners will be notified by March 28 and must begin their fellowship by June 15.
